Betty,
There is a group known as "Gravestone Studies" which would advise as to
correct cleaning of the stones. There is a chapter located in Hadley or
there about. I will see about locating more definite information for you.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Cleaning gravestones

We have a project in Westport to survey all the historic cemeteries. We
are
also trying to read the inscriptions. In many cases, it would help to
clean
the stone to make it legible. Does anyone have a suggestion for cleaning
them?

Thanks.

Betty Slade,
Westport
