Sandy,

You didn't identify the town in which the church is located. If the
church is listed in the State Register of Historic Places it would be
eligible to apply for an Emergency Grant, or a Massachusetts
Preservation Projects Fund Grant. Both grant programs are administered
by the Massachusetts Historical Commission, under William Francis
Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth. Round 13 of the MPPF program is
now underway. To find out more information on this program, go to the
MHC website at www.sec.state.ma.us/mhc.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Saving an Old Church Tower

On Dudley Hill there stands a church founded in 1732 with its current
church tower dedicated in 1891. Within it walls, there is a reserved
pew for the Nipmuck Indians. The tower is in disrepair and the
congregation is split on what to do. The cost for the restoration of
the tower is estimated at $300,000.
Does anyone know of any grants available to help with such restoration?
Thanks for any information.
    Sandy
