Hi Susan, I am glad to see that the town of Tolland has reactivated its
historical commission. Do all of the members of the Tolland Historical
Commission have a copy of our guidebook, the Preservation Planning
Manual? Our Summary Sheet for Local Historical Commission members can
be found on our website at
http://www.sec.state.ma.us/mhc/mhcpdf/lhcsum.pdf
According to our recently completed five year state historic
preservation plan, the town of Tolland has "outstanding" needs for
historic property survey. So, this should really be your priority as a
local historical commission. I'd be happy to chat with you more about
goals for your newly reactivated historical commission. Chris.

Subject: [MassHistPres] regarding grants and record retention
The Tolland Historical Commission and Tolland Historical Society
[informal]
are very interested in any information which we can find regarding
Grants
available for our Fledgling group.
We are also interested in finding help in determination of which
documents
we should be seeking and protecting. We wonder if there is help in the
way
of a speaker on this subject.
We are in the process of purchasing one 'one hour burn' filing cabinet.
Note that Tolland has already lost most of it's records to a town hall
fire!
Thankfully, being that we were, and are a small town, many of our
records
were actually stored in the homes of the officials, so not all was lost!
We
truly are taking baby steps here in Tolland and welcome any and all help
and
suggestions.
Thanks for your help,
Susan Moore
