Susan,
>From our review it seems that Boston, NYC, Philadelphia are a few of the major cities that
accomodate Landmark status which allows them to protect semi-public spaces (i.e. theaters).
However, I have not found any authority over interiors of private homes. Nantucket is considering
how to come at this, but we may just end up spinning our wheels.
Keep on plugging away at preservation restrictions and education otherwise.
