ESTABLISHING LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICTS
IN MASSACHUSETTS
Monday, April 23, 2007
Medford, MA
6-8 pm
The Massachusetts Historical Commission, with the Medford Historical
Commission, will hold an "Establishing Local Historic Districts"
workshop in Medford, Massachusetts at Medford City Hall.
Established through a local bylaw or ordinance, a local historic
district is the optimal tool for preventing demolitions and
inappropriate alterations to significant historic resources. The
workshop will provide an overview of local historic districts including
a statewide perspective over the past fifty years, how a local historic
district protects significant historic resources and the basic steps
required to establish a local historic district.
This presentation is primarily for local historical commissions, local
historic district study committees and historic district commission
members interested in establishing local historic districts in their
community. However, anyone concerned about protecting historic
resources and understanding the basics of local historic districts is
welcome to attend.
There is no charge to attend this workshop. If you plan on attending,
please RSVP to Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us with your name, address,
phone number, email address and the name of your commission (if
applicable). If less than 15 people register for this program by April
19, 2007, this program will be postponed.
If you are interested in hosting a regional meeting in your community,
please contact me for an MHC On the Road request form.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
