Historic New England has a list, not sure if they are willing to share, or perhaps its as simple as suggesting homeowners joing HNE to get the guidance they need.

My take is if a Commission is going to suggest that someone do something to preserve a property they should have some idea where the homeowner can go to look for the right kind of contractor. Sometimes it's as simple as saying "look in the yellow pages for a stone mason" because many homeowners won't even think to do that. There are also directories of preservation specialists like www.historicpreservation.com or www.tradbuilding.com that can at least point people in the right direction. I think giving guidance is better than throwing a homeowner out in the cold looking for a service provider and wondering why they resent the HC.

that are sensitive to historical buildings. I am wondering if any of you have
a list? We've been going back and forth in our Commission about the pros and
cons of having this type of thing and are wondering how other communities
handle this.. We worry about sounding like we are recommending someone. I know
Preservation Mass has one but am not sure how they were obtained or how
extensive it is.
