Curator/Caretaker Position
The Town of Brookline and the Brookline Historical Society are seeking a
curator/caretaker for the Edward Devotion House, 347 Harvard Street,
Brookline, Massachusetts. The Devotion House is operated as a house museum
and is the headquarters of the Brookline Historical Society. The
curator/caretaker will live in a three-room apartment on the second floor.
In addition to a minimal rent, the curator/caretaker will pay for the
buildings utility costs (water, heat, electricity and gas).
The duties of the curator/caretaker will include maintenance and
supervision of the property, and responsibility for regular open hours,
tours and other public programs. He or she will also provide
administrative assistance to the Brookline Historical Society. The
expectation is that the curator/caretaker will work for 10-12 hours per
week.
A Bachelor of Arts degree, M.A. in American History, Art, Museum Studies
or Preservation Studies and a minimum of two years of museum and
interpretive experience are preferred. Candidates showing experience in
the care and maintenance of an historic property and its collections are
particularly desirable. A flexible daytime schedule is required.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are
required.
The successful candidate will have to undergo a CORI check and to sign an
occupancy agreement with the Town. The term of this occupancy agreement
shall be for three (3) years, beginning on or after September 5, 2007. At
the end of the three year term, an additional three year term may be
negotiated, if both the Town and the Curator/Caretaker are in agreement as
to fees and responsibilities.
