JOB POSTING
Job Title: Senior Preservation Planner
Reports To: Chief planner
Salary Range: $48,000 58,000
Job Responsibilities
* Acts as a resource to elected and appointed officials
and the general public regarding historic
preservation issues and projects, and advises Boards
and Commissions on such issues in relation to land
use and zoning policy, and various other
regulations. Provides technical assistance in
reviewing plans; prepares preliminary analytical
research reports and guidelines; and makes
recommendations regarding future projects, policy,
regulation, and ordinance changes.
* Initiates preservation plans and projects, as well as
contributes to the historic preservation element of
any long range and comprehensive planning
initiatives.
* Completes Requests for Eligibility and nominations
to the National Register of Historic Places.
Oversees Citys Local Landmark Program. Educates
property owners about various preservation
programs and processes and their implications.
* Provides technical staff support to Newton
Historical Commission and local historic district
commissions.
* Ensures that City meets its requirements as a
Certified Local Government.
Education & Job Experience:
* Masters degree from an accredited graduate school
in historic preservation, architecture, architectural
history, or related field; plus three to five years
related experience.
* Successful candidate must be able to multi-task with
varying project deadlines, possess exceptional
interpersonal and problem solving skills, and be
able to determine policy or strategy directions.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word,
Excel and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
is extremely desirable.
