Hello,
Having read about the state of Connecticut's and the
town of Harwinton, CT's efforts to preserve stone
walls, I am interested in learning about what we can
do in MA about the problem of disappearing stone
walls. The Scenic Roads Act in some towns and cities
is the only legislation of which I'm aware that
protects walls. I have also seen the Stone Wall
Initiative from UConn. Does anyone have any
suggestions regarding ways to preserve walls on public
and/or private property?
For example, we have conservation easements for land,
can there be an easement for stone walls exclusively?
Can tax incentives be offered for people who preserve,
rather than destroy, sell, or move, walls on their
property?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jeff Kotkin
Framingham
