Greetings,

Can anyone recommend a slate roof specialist in Western Massachusetts?
My wife and I recently purchased a home in downtown Westfield built in
1900 with its original slate roof still largely intact, but which is in
need of inspection and maintenance. Any recommendations would be
appreciated!

Cheers,

Matt VanHeynigen

On April 20 I posted a message regarding the threat of demolition to the
historic buildings on the UMass Amherst campus. The response was very
encouraging. As a result we have supporters for a new organization
"Preserve UMass", ranging from Nantucket to western Massachusetts, plus
neighboring states.

We have indications that our request for a comprehensive, independent,
professional assessment of the architecture and history the modern and
historic structures is being heard, but we plan to keep the pressure on
until there is official recognition of the reasonableness of our
argument.

Anyone wishing more details or who wishes to be added to our roster of
supporters should contact me.

Our town (Hancock, NH) is looking for about 1200 feet of random length,
hand split, granite curbing, 6 or 8 inches wide. Any suggestions you
have would be welcomed.

Thank you,

Dennis,

As a NCD is less restrictive than a LHD, the neighborhood group decided
it would be easier to get the voters support. For the guidelines and a
full discussion, refer to
www.townofnorthandover.com/Pages/NAndoverMA_CommDev/msvindex.

I should be more precise... this Town Meeting vote initiates the
petition to the General Court to enact the bylaw, so it may take up to a

year before the bylaw is on the books.

Linda
