Sounds like a patented transom system that I came across once; the
glazing was comprised of horizontal prisms that refracted outside light
across the ceiling of the store. If I find the reference I'll share it.

Has anyone heard of "Dale Lights"? They appear on some late 19th century
construction drawings and seem to be some kind of borrowed light system
- perhaps a skylight above transoms.
