Of course there are many examples of adaptive re-uses of churches.  Some I've visited in Europe include an art gallery in Ireland, a restaurant & bar in Scotland, a Vivaldi museum (also concert venue), appropriately, in Venice, and a concert hall in Florence.  Exterior & interior amenities are preserved.  But those uses might not fit into your Springfield neighborhood.
