[MassHistPres] carriage shed framing

In Whately, carpenters stabilizing a the only remaining two bays of a
church carriage shed believed to date from the 1840's discovered that it
was built with an unusual tipped frame structure. The center and main
load-bearing posts, which are set well back from the overhanging front
roof, were built - not perpendicular to the ground as would be expected -
but pitched at about a 10 degree angle to the rear. All the other framing
members were carefully built to support this tilt. (If you email me, I can
send a diagram that makes this clearer.)

Similar framing has been found in a carriage shed built in Northfield about
twenty years later.

Does anyone know of other examples or the reason for this design?
