Your query about "Preservation through Bylaws and Ordinances" is
certainly timely as we are just getting a major update of this guidebook
underway. For those not familiar with this guidebook, it includes
descriptions of various preservation bylaws in use in Massachusetts such
as demolition delay, local historic districts, scenic roads,
neighborhood conservation districts, overlay zoning, transfer of
development rights, planned unit developments as well as many others.
It describes how each of the bylaws work, lists the towns in MA that
have them and includes brief summaries of how the bylaws are working in
practice in selected communities.
We have recently hired a consultant team to extensively update this
guidebook as there are many more towns with useful preservation bylaws
and many more success stories out there.
The consultants will be seeking input from members of masshistpres, over
the coming weeks and months, as they gather success stories from around
the state.
I am very excited about this project and hope many of you will offer
your suggestions on how to improve this guidebook.

I have a good booklet "Preservation Through Bylaws and Ordinances"
printed in 1999.
Where can I get an updated version?
