Thanks to everyone who responded to my post about demonstrating
historical significance. There were two replies I received that
suggested publications that everyone might be interested in checking
out:

1) "The best source of arguments for a variety of preservation issues is
a book by Donovan D. Rypkema, who is well known in preservation
nationally, entitled: The Economics of Historic Preservation, A
Community Leader's Guide, published by the National Trust for Historic
Preservation, 1994."

I discovered that this book can be purchased from the Historic Trust at
https://www.mainstreet.org/content.aspx?page=5775

2) "One place you might start with is the National Park Service,
National Register. It breaks down the criteria for historic significance
into 7 different aspects that you might address in your talk."

Thanks again to everyone for all your great suggestions.
