NEWS AT THE MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL COMMISSION
Welcome to our third issue of the Local Preservation Update
e-newsletter. As always, we welcome your thoughts on what you would
like to see in this newsletter.
Reconnaissance Historic Property Survey Planning Website
A comprehensive, community-wide historic property survey on MHC
inventory forms should be a goal for all local historical commissions.
If your local historical commission is undertaking an update or
expansion of historic property survey forms, a survey plan is an
excellent place to begin. A survey plan can help your commission
understand your survey needs community-wide and help you prepare an
action plan for accomplishing your survey goals year by year. The
Massachusetts Historical Commission is introducing a new website for
historic property survey plans that may be of interest to you. The
purpose of the website is to comprehensively gather street addresses,
digital photographs, historical information and notes in order to make
it easier for everyone involved to see what kinds of survey needs are
present. With this information, prioritizing community-wide survey
needs is a more manageable task. About a dozen communities are
currently utilizing this website already. If you would like additional
information on how this website could benefit your own community, please
contact Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us

Commission.
