REPORT FROM PRESERVE UMASS

>From the beginning of our efforts to improve the environment on the UMass Amherst campus for historical preservation, Preserve UMass has sought to engage the campus community, along with the much wider community of alumni and friends, in the dialog. With the publication of the current, Fall 2008, issue of the UMass Amherst Magazine we have made a major stride toward that objective.

The Magazine, which is sent to UMass Amherst alumni and friends of the campus, has published a 10 page series of three articles on our efforts and related progress on the campus. The main article is authored by alumnus Eric Goldscheider '93G, the second by UMass Classics Professor Emeritus Vince Cleary, and the third by UMass Associate Professor of Architecture and History, Max Page, a charter Preserve UMass supporter.

To see the text of these articles go to the following URL on the Internet:

http://umassmag.com/2008/fall_2008/features/building.html

Once on this site, if you want to download the full color version of the three articles, along with photographs and a campus timeline chart look for the instruction near the beginning of the first article that says "Download pdf of complete article". Click there.

On another note, we have reason to believe that all parties to the long-awaited Memorandum of Agreement between the University of Massachusetts Building Authority, the Amherst Campus, the Town of Amherst Historical Commission and Preserve UMass have reached agreement on the text. We will keep you posted and will advise you when it has been officially agreed to.
