GLOBE NORTHWEST LETTER
Historic neglect
December 4, 2008
It is gratifying to learn that the Commonwealth has taken steps to
preserve the open space and agricultural heritage along the Route 2 and
Route 2A corridor in Concord and Acton ("By order of the state: no hustle,
no bustle," Nov. 23).
However, no mention was made of another important ingredient of that
area's agricultural heritage - the historic, early 19th-century farmhouse in
Acton, just west of the Concord line, that state officials have been
subjecting to "demolition by neglect" for the past several years.
I am informed that historic preservationists in Acton have had no
success in getting state officials to take a responsible position, and
efforts to get the Massachusetts Historical Commission to even comment on
the situation have been unavailing.
