NEWS AT THE MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL COMMISSION

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND BEST WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR!

CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT WORKSHOP

Local commission members from Amherst, Arlington, Concord, Gloucester,
Lexington, Melrose, Reading, Sudbury, Wareham and Wellesley attended the
December 5, 2008 workshop on the Certified Local Government Program.
Attendees learned the benefits of becoming a CLG, the application
process, maintaining CLG status and how the National Register process
works with CLGs. If you weren't able to attend this workshop, we plan
on offering the workshop again in 2009.

LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICTS IN MASSACHUSETTS DVD

In addition to the recently released "Local Historical Commissions in
Massachusetts" DVD, another DVD for local commissions is underway. This
one, for local historic district commissions, is an expansion of the
local historic district design review DVD completed several years ago.
This DVD will include sections on establishing a local historic
district, administering a local historic district and design review in a
local historic district. We are nearing completion and anticipate it
will be available for distribution in 2009.
