McMansions in the News: 

The North County Times (CA) relates that the city planning dept. denied an architect approval to use the term "McMansions" in describing the architectural style of his project. His first try was Spanish-colonial, but the planners said he needed more recessed windows and iron railings, so he went to McM. to which they said that the term has a negative connotation and equates with cookie-cutter homes that don't mesh with the surrounding homes, therefore they did not agree with that term.
