We're starting to get more solar applications here in Cambridge too. If you google "solar historic design guidelines", you'll see several examples from California and Colarado come up as results. I'm not aware of any Massachusetts examples of such guidelines yet, but if you hear of some, please update the listserve.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Solar Devices on Roofs

My local historic district commission in Bristol, RI is beginning to get
queries from homeowners about installing solar devices on the roofs of
historic structures. These may be thin photo-cell material, or the bulkier
units designed to heat hot water.

At present there are no guidelines addressing this issue directly.

Does anyone know of a community that has tackled the question and produced
new or supplemental design guidelines covering such installations?

Thank you.
