[MassHistPres] trolley

The RI Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has used trolleys very
effectively, especially on its Newport routes. Ridership here in
Newport jumped dramatically when the trolleys were introduced. There
are 5 or 6 trolleys that travel from Providence to Newport each day. A
recent effort by RIPTA to eliminate the traditional-looking trolleys
created a huge stir amongst the museum and hospitality community in the
state. More than 100 business leaders and museum heads signed a
petition which turned RIPTA around.
So, in a few weeks, we will be celebrating the continuation of
newly-restored trolleys at a press conference organized by RIPTA.
It might be useful to talk to the leaders at RIPTA.

My understanding is that a trolley is an electric powered vehicle that
gets its power from an overhead wire. I don't think that's what you
could use for a city tour unless you really have overhead wires on the
routes you contemplate. You probably want an antique bus.
In any case, you might contact the Seashore Trolley Museum in
Kennebunkport ME (trolleymuseum.org).
