LOCAL HISTORICAL COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP UPDATES
Local Historical Commission Membership Update Forms were recently sent
to all local historical commission chairpersons. If you have received
this form, please update it with current commission member names,
addresses, phone numbers and email addresses and return it to the
Massachusetts Historical Commission. The forms help MHC keep local
commission members informed and provide us with local contacts when we
need to communicate with you. For new members listed on the form, we
will send out a new member packet including the Preservation Planning
Manual, the guidebook for local historical commission members. We've
already received over 60 updated forms from around the state. If you
haven't sent in your membership update form already, please do so. We
will also gladly accept an electronic version of your commission
membership if that is easier for you.
SPRING ANNUAL TOWN MEETINGS
At its annual spring town meeting, the town of Plympton revised its
demolition delay bylaw from 6 months to 18 months.
Are you bringing a preservation bylaw to your annual town meeting or did
your town recently pass a new preservation bylaw? If so, please let me
know.

MASS AUDUBON PUBLISHES REPORT ON DEVELOPMENT IN MASSACHUSETTS
Mass Audubon's "Losing Ground: Beyond the Footprint" is the latest in a
series of reports highlighting development pressures statewide. This
edition considers the impact of development from 1999-2005 in each city
and town of Massachusetts. The report found good news that
Massachusetts is protecting more land than is lost to development.
However, the report notes that 22 acres of land is developed each day in
Massachusetts with some areas particularly threatened by sprawl
development. The Losing Ground website features interactive maps and
statistics for Massachusetts municipalities and regions. For more
information, visit http://www.massaudubon.org/losingground/
