[MassHistPres] Can sloping floors be corrected?

Not necessarily if the 1st floor joists have some other support, such as
added support beams and lally columns or by resting on the foundation walls
while the rotting sills crush under the wall studs. I have seen both.
Usually you can detect some drop in the first floor or disturbance in the
baseboards, unless the floor joists were jacked level and then the columns
or foundation shims added. No matter what it is an expensive and disruptive
structural problem to correct.

The problem will be in or above the first floor walls if the only problem is
in the 2nd floor walls.

Marian,
Sounds like the sills have rotted. means the house will need to be jacked up
and new sills installed. Needs a look from a knowledgeable engineer,
architect or contractor.

Can sloping floors be corrected in a circa 1913 two-story home with a
fieldstone foundation? The sloping floors only occur in the two front rooms
on the 2nd floor. They slope downward toward the front of the house. All
other floors in the house appear to be level. And if so, what sort of
contractor would I contact for an estimate?

Thanks for your help!
