Mr. Skelly:
Good of you to jump in here. You are not the only one puzzled. It has been
20 years since I served on an HDC and I was wondering what I have missed.
Does the hoop need a building permit? Would a new mailbox - essentially a
mini version of the basketball hoop - steel pole in cement with a basket -
also need HDC approval? I commend Acton for considering their work
carefully, but I am curious where the lines are drawn today. I am sure
others will want to follow this discussion.

I'm having a hard time understanding what the concern would be with a
basketball hoop located in your local historic district. Can you elaborate
on the specifics here. Chris

Acton Historic District Commission has an application for a permanent basket
ball hoop in a prominent location in our Acton Center district. Might any
other historic district commissions have come across this kind of request?
If so, what measures were taken in response?

Vice-Chairperson
Acton Historic District Commission
