[MassHistPres] Chimney Cap Height

Hello,

Here's a question about chimney caps--specifically, the height
required from the cap to the top course of bricks.

As my and I applicant understand it, the MA building code does not
dictate guidelines but says to defer to the manufacturer for specs on
this dimension.

Three manufacturers say that the height of the cap must be 8 inches
from the top of the flue.

In my applicant's case, the flue sticks out 6 inches, so the cap must
be 14 inches higher than the top course of bricks. Figuring a 2.25
inch brick plus .25 inch mortar, that's about six courses of bricks
high. This seems like a vast and dorky distance.

Thoughts?
