[MassHistPres] National Register Question

Hello,
Anyone can submit a request asking whether, in MHC's opinion, a property
is eligible for listing in the National Register. Some properties are
eligible individually; others are eligible only as part of a potential
National Register district. An actual National Register listing results
only after a multi-step review and approval of a nomination form
submitted for the property.  Again, anyone could submit the nomination;
however, in order for MHC to proceed with any nomination for an
individually eligible property, it is our policy that we must have in
hand a letter from the property owner saying that they are aware of and
support the nomination. This is true whether the property is privately
or publicly owned.

Subject: [MassHistPres] National Register Question

In 1701 The Town of Milton was given a parcel of land under the will of
Gov. Stoughton for the benefit of the Towns Poor. Over the years it has
been used for a number of purposes including a farm and an Alms House.
It is largely used except for 1 house that is used as a rental property.
The 5 mid to later 19th century structures are in a serious state of
disrepear. The landscape has some historic walls and fences. The
Selectmen serve as Trustees of the Gov Soughton Will.Serveral Town
Residents have proposed that the Poor Farm be placed on the National
Register. Do the Selectman (there are 3) have to submit the National
Regisister Petition or can Town Residents submit the Petition
