LOCAL HISTORICAL COMMISSION MUNICIPAL BUDGETS
During challenging economic times, many local historical commissions are
facing reductions in their municipal budget. This is true even when
prior funding was quite small. Budgets for local historical commissions
are often in the $500-1000 range but they vary greatly with some local
historical commissions not receiving any municipal funding. Even a
small budget can make a big difference in the ability of a local
historical commission to carry out its activities. So, it is important
for local historical commissions to continue to advocate for funding by
explaining how funds will be allocated for preservation projects. The
Massachusetts Historical Commission maintains a list of local historical
commission municipal budgets for cities and towns in Massachusetts. If
you would like to receive this list, please contact
Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us <mailto:Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us> .
Then, help us keep it up to date if information for your municipality is
either missing or needs to be revised.
LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT APPEAL PROCESS
Massachusetts General Law Chapter 40C - The Local Historic Districts Act
includes an appeal process following a decision by a local historic
district commission. Has your local historic district commission
recently gone through an appeal process? If so, please contact
Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us <mailto:Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us> .
We'd like to hear about your experiences.
