[MassHistPres] "FLW" House in Wellesley

I checked the MLS system and if I had to take a guess at the house in question, it is a modernist house that may be considered to have FLW influence from a lay-perspective (and I do not mean to be disparaging of that perspective!). I would not attribute any FLW inspiration to it. The building has merit and should be documented if it is not already.

I think this case actually highlights the problem of modernist houses built on large lots in serene settings being marketed as tear-downs. I know that there is a group in Lincoln (Friends of Modernism?) that is working to combat this trend. There is also the example of the Richardson House in Brookline (what ever happened to that?) The housing slowdown has surely helped but it will be a never-ending battle.

Have a great day,

There are two in NH, both on Heather Street in Manchester. The Zimmerman House was given to the Currier Museum of Art and can be visited by appointment: http://currier.org/collections/zimmerman.aspx. Both are classified as Usonian, but the Zimmerman House has some Prairie overtones, while the other (a privately owned dwelling) is much more aggressively "modern."

Unless a lost one one has been discovered, I believe the nearest FLlW house is in N.H.

To my knowledge there is no Frank Lloyd Wright designed house in Wellesley, and a couple of quick checks of a Wright Listing of Buildings by Location on the web bears my suspicion out. The nearest ones are th Zimmerman House in New Hampshire and the Baird House in Amherst, MA.

This house was probably either designed by an acolyte or is a knock-off by someone else. This is not to say that it should not be protected. Does anyone have photos or any documentary information?
