[MassHistPres] Slate Roofs VS Asphalt

I'm trying to do a rough comparison between slate and asphalt roofs for a historic building in town. Assuming the slate roof will last about 120 yrs and the asphalt roof either 30 or 50 years. Can anyone tell me the material costs for a "square" of Vermont slate and a "square" of asphalt shingle. I'll do the math. We are trying to show that the slate is a much better long term investment.
