Our Town Museum and Archive are housed in a gothic-style Civil War
Memorial built in 1868 of stone with a slate roof which is listed in
the National Register. About 1890 two additional rooms were added to
serve as book rooms to make the structure into a library and those
additions had copper roofs with integrated copper skylights and gutter
systems. On recent inspection we found the skylights to be badly
corroded and the roof surfaces and gutters need to be evaluated as well.
We are looking for someone with expertise on antique copper roofs/
structures that can give us an evaluation of what needs to be done to
preserve/restore/replace these beautiful roofs and skylights before we
have additional deterioration and/or interior damage to the building.
As part of this evaluation we would also be looking for a budgetary
estimate of the cost of any required work to allow us to plan for that
activity.
Recommendations or suggestions regarding someone or a company with the
required expertise would be appreciated.
Thank you.
