This e-newsletter from the Massachusetts Historical Commission
Preservation Planning Division has been prepared for local historical
commissions, historic district commissions and others interested in
historic preservation activities around the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts. It is published roughly every other week. If you have

LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT STUDY COMMITTEES
The Select Boards in the towns of Northbridge and Hopedale recently
approved the appointment of local historic district study committees.
This is the first step in the process of investigating the establishment
of a local historic district.
LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT STUDY REPORTS
The town of Carver recently submitted a local historic district study
report for the establishment of a new local historic district in South
Carver.
NEW DEMOLITION DELAY ORDINANCE
The town of Halifax recently passed a demolition delay ordinance.
NEW LISTINGS IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
Boston, Highland Spring Brewery Bottling and Storage buildings (Mission
Hill)
Wilmington, Butters - Avery House
INPUT ON THE DRAFT STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLAN 2011-2015
By the middle of September, the Massachusetts Historical Commission will
be seeking input on the draft State Historic Preservation Plan for
2011-2015. Copies will be available either electronically as a PDF or
as a hard copy. If you would like to receive the draft plan, please
contact Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us

you would like the plan electronically or sent by mail.
PRESERVATION WORCESTER - GREEN INITIATIVE
Preservation Worcester is hosting a series of events this fall on
historic preservation, sustainability and energy conservation. Topics
include window repair demonstrations, embodied energy, how historic
preservation is sustainable and greening the older home. For more

CITIZEN'S GUIDE TO SECTION 106 REVIEW
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation has updated their
citizen's brochure on the Section 106 review process. This brochure
explains how projects with a federal involvement are reviewed and what
you should do if you are concerned about a proposed project. The
