MHC-funded opportunity for contractors at the Sanborn House Historical
and Cultural Center in Winchester, MA:
ADVERTISEMENT
The Winchester Historical Society , the Owner, invites sealed bids and
qualifications from general contractors for the Accessible Front
Entry And Exterior Restoration (Project A)___for the Sanborn House
Historic and Cultural Center in Winchester, Massachusetts, in
accordance with the documents prepared by Red Hawk Studio Architects,
Inc. This project is partially funded through a Massachusetts
Preservation Projects Fund grant as provided by the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts and allocated by the Massachusetts Historical
Commission.
The Project consists of: _ a renovated main entry at the Sanborn
House meeting the requirements of the Massachusetts Architectural
Access Board and ADA regulations while fitting appropriately with the
historic architecture. This property is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places and is protected by a detailed
Preservation Restriction held by the Massachusetts Historical
Commission. All work on this property, including maintenance, repair
and restoration, is subject to review by the Massachusetts Historical
Commission and must strictly comply with the Secretary of the
Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Building (36 CFR
68).
The work is estimated to cost $ 90,000.00
General bidders must be provide documentation of qualifications to
perform work on historical properties. A fixed price contract will be
awarded to the best value and qualified bidder whose bid is responsive
to this invitation and is most advantageous considering prices and the
contractor’s ability to fulfill the requirements of the contract .
Bids are not subject to M.G.L. c.149 §44A-J or to minimum wage rates
as required by M.G.L. c.l49 §§26 to 27H inclusive.
General Bids will be received until 2:00 p.m., January 18, 2011 at
the address below and publicly opened, forthwith.
Mailed Bids should be sent to The Winchester Historical Society, 15
High Street, Winchester, MA 01890
and received no later than the date and time specified above.
General bids shall be accompanied by a bid deposit that is not less
than five (5%) of the greatest possible bid amount (considering all
alternates), and made payable to the The Winchester Historical
Society .
Bid Forms and Contract Documents will be available for pick-up at Red
Hawk Studio Architects, Inc., 18 Main Street, Concord, MA 01742
after l0:00 a.m., on December 15, 2010 upon deposit of a
certified or cashier's check in the amount of $ 50.00 per set,
payable to the Owner. This deposit will be refunded for up to two
sets per bidder upon return of the sets in good condition within
thirty days of receipt of general bids. Otherwise the deposit shall
be the property of the Owner. Additional sets may be purchased for $
50.00 .
Bidders requesting Contract Documents to be mailed to them shall
include a separate check for $ 20.00 per set, payable to Red
Hawk Studio Architects, Inc, to cover mail handling costs.
General bidders are encouraged to contract with minority and
women-owned businesses as certified by the State Office of Minority
and Women Business Assistance (SOMWBA).
The Winchester Historical Society reserves the right to reject any or
all bids or to waive any informalities in the bidding if it be in the
Historical Society’s interest to do so.
The job site and existing building will be available for inspection
between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on January 4, 2011. It is
strongly recommended that bidders view the site prior to submitting a
bid.
