There are any number of "stores" such as Longleaf Lumber in Cambridge that 
sell wood and other materials that have been salvaged from buildings that 
have torn down. This recycled material might fit the bill. There are a number 
of companies that have formed a cooperative of smaller forest owners that 
might harvest wood that would work well for historic use. Having a rating 
system such as Forest Stewardship Council could set appropriate guidelines
