MASSACHUSETTS HISTORIC REHABILITATION TAX CREDIT EXTENDED

The Massachusetts Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit program has been
extended until December 31, 2017. Originally established in 2003, the
program was set to expire in 2011. With its extension, many worthwhile
projects can progress. For more information on the tax credit, visit
the Massachusetts Historical Commission's website at
http://www.sec.state.ma.us/mhc/mhctax/taxidx.htm

OPEN MEETING LAW CHANGES

Local commission members should familiarize themselves with the recent
significant changes to the Open Meeting Law for Massachusetts. Among
the changes is the requirement that posted commission meeting notices
must include a list of topics the chair reasonably anticipates will be
discussed at the meeting. The notice must be conspicuously visible to
the public at all hours. The office of the Attorney General has very
useful resource material regarding all the requirements of the new open
meeting law. For more information, visit www.mass.gov/ago/openmeeting.

STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLAN 2011-2015 PUBLIC MEETING HELD IN
DUXBURY

In June, a public meeting on the State Historic Preservation Plan was
held in Duxbury, MA. Following a powerpoint presentation on the
previous state historic preservation plans, the role of MHC in
developing the state plan and the outline of the upcoming 2011-2015
state historic preservation plan, attendees offered their input on major
accomplishments in historic preservation over the past five years, what
the current issues facing historic preservation are locally, regionally
or statewide and what goals should be included in the plan for the
coming five years.

ADDITIONAL INPUT ON THE STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLAN

Additional public meeting(s) will be considered if there is broad
interest from a particular region of the state. Otherwise, we would be
happy to receive your thoughts by mail, email or phone. For more
information, please contact Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us.
