I prefer a different Jose Ortega Y Gasset quote that also speaks to the
relationship between humans and their landscape:

"One does not hunt in order to kill. On the contrary, one kills in order
to have hunted."

Subject: [MassHistPres] Thought for the day

Hi, all --

this was today's "Thought for Today" from the Word of the Day posting --
thought you might find it relevant.

Best,

Marilyn

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

I am I plus my surroundings and if I do not preserve the latter, I do
not preserve myself. - Jose Ortega Y Gasset, philosopher and essayist
(1883-1955)
