[MassHistPres] Requests for Proposals - MA DCR Historic Curatorship Program

The Department of Conservation and Recreation is pleased to invite proposals for the rehabilitation, reuse and maintenance of the following historic properties:

Kerighan House, Bradley Palmer State Park, Hamilton, MA
Whitehead House, Willowdale State Forest, Ipswich, MA

DCR seeks creative and innovative responses to this announcement for a compatible reuse of these two unique historic properties.  The properties are eligible for a long term lease under the Historic Curatorship Program.  The Request for Proposals seeks to identify parties interested in the opportunity to live in some of the Commonwealth's most beautiful state parks in exchange for rehabilitation, management and maintenance services.

Located within Bradley Palmer State Park, the Kerighan House is an early nineteenth-century farmhouse with minimal alterations.  The house was purchased by Bradley Palmer around 1900 as a home for his Scottish gardener, William B. Keith and his wife.  The 2-3 bedroom 2500-square foot house sits on the southern edge of the park.

The Whitehead House, built circa 1840, retains its original exterior finishes and is noteworthy for its simple, well proportioned Greek Revival form with sidelights and a glass transom surrounding the front door. It was purchased by Bradley Palmer from the Small family in the early 20th century and became part of his large country estate.  The 1500-square foot, 2-bedroom house sits on the northern edge of Willowdale State Forest.
