Jeff.Lacy at state.ma.us writes:

"...potential damage to archeological finds in the seabed..." Give me a
break! So much for ACHP credibility. Historic preservation and development
of alternative energy resources are both imperatives, are not mutually
exclusive, and need to happen right in our own backyards, not in someone else's.

Would anyone know if the three page letter described below has been posted
on-line?
Thanks,

"Advisory Council Defends Wind Decision"
May 04, 2010, Cape Cod Times
The federal Advisory Council on Historic Preservation has shot back at six
state governors who warned U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar that
rejecting the proposed Nantucket Sound wind farm could limit similar projects up
and down the East Coast.
Salazar last week approved the plan by Cape Wind Associates to build 130
wind turbines in the Sound despite objections from state and federal
historic officials and Wampanoag Indian tribes on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard.
In an April 30 letter to state historic preservation officers in Delaware,
New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, the
federal advisory council said they believed the Sound is so unique that it is
unlikely that similar conditions would exist elsewhere.
"At the outset, the geography and legal status of the area are highly
unusual," the council wrote, adding that there is no similar piece of the Outer
Continental Shelf on the Atlantic Coast.
In addition, they wrote, the number of historic properties in the area is
also likely unique.
The combined effect of the historic properties and the potential damage to
archeological finds in the seabed is what led to the council's decision,
according to the three-page letter.
