Veronica,
1) What are you/ they replacing?
2) There are a lot of hungry roofing contractors out there and now would be
the time to explore natural slate.
- The right natural slate can last many lifetimes!
- The material costs are nearly identical. (and the economy has brought
labor costs closer)
Ecostar and Lamarite are the two (faux slate) products that have been around
longest. The Lamarite is thicker and provides a stronger look for a long
roof line. Both have many color choices trying to mimic natural slate, how
well they accomplish that is up to the individual.
EcoStar does have a lot of style differences that would help, say in putting
a pattern into a mansard roof. Again, all designed to mimic natural stone.
Cons:
EcoStar bends and originally curled up on the corners and Lamarite can snap
if you try to bend it too far. neither of these "products" have a proven
track record and therefore may need to be replaced before their claimed /
hoped life expectancy is up.
Natural stone is really something that your friend should explore before
making the final determination...
Cheers,
Garrett
