Over the past year, MHC staff has presented regional workshops throughout Massachusetts on historic preservation planning, demolition delay bylaws, and establishing local historic districts. If you are interested in hosting a regional workshop in your community, there is room for some additional dates during 2010-2011. UTILITY BOXES AND STRUCTURES IN LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICTS

Is your local historic district commission facing new challenges from the placement of utility boxes and structures within your local historic district? MHC has heard from several district commissions that are experiencing violations within the local historic district from utility companies. In a local historic district, the placement of a utility box visible from the public way requires the submittal of an application and the granting of a certificate from the district commission. If you are experiencing violations of local historic district process, MHC is collecting examples in order to study this situation further. If you have examples from your own district, please contact Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us <mailto:Christopher.Skelly at state.ma.us> .
