Mr Lowe, and perhaps Garret too-

Have you considered either Habitat for Humanity <https://www.habitat.org/cd/local/default.aspx>
or ReStore in Springfield <http://www.restoreonline.org>?

Both take donations of unwanted building materials. I'm not positive, but Habitat would probably not be interested in the windows of Garrett's customer, but may very likely be interested in Mr Lowe's. ReStore may take any & all.

Also, if your local community has a Freecycle program, you may find somebody interested through that.

While you all are thinking....

I've got a different version of the same problem. I just finished up a small

renovation. I restored all our old windows (with excellent storms). But I also

added a totally new bay window--two typical double-hung windows in front, and

two somewhat oddly proportioned ones on the side--typical height, but narrow.

They are pretty good Anderson double-glazed wooden windows. But Anderson kept

getting the order wrong--sent ones with the wrong muntins (that don't match the

rest of the room), and at least one with a slightly crooked muntin that they

just replaced. They just sent new sashes, not casings, and of course wouldn't

take the incorrect sashes back. The contractor, naturally, was just going to

throw them in the dumpster, but I, too--foolishly, probably--"saw some inherent

value in them."

Any ideas on how I get 5 or 6 completely unused sashes out of my basement?

All,

I'm looking to help a homeowner in Watertown who replaced their windows but

interestingly kept the old sashes in the basement, seeing some inherent

value in them...

Do any of you window maintenance providers have a place to bring the sash or

glass once removed? Additional ideas would be appreciated.

* NEW windows are already installed and old are in basement headed to the

curb before Thanksgiving. They are not interested in saving the original and

re-installing them once the NEW windows fail, I asked that question! And I

know most of you thought it too...

Cheers,

Garrett
