Hide and Seek: Where is Your School and How Do You Get There?
The ability of children to bike or walk to school is impacted both by the location of their school as well as the safety of their route. State and local school siting policies can encourage school modernization and construction guidelines that make walking and cycling to school more feasible. The Safe Routes to School program also exists to improve the safety and convenience of walking and biking to school; and both of these strategies can be components of a larger vision for more sustainable community design. This webinar will discuss safe routes to school and school siting guidelines within the framework of broader sustainable community development, as well as offer effective tactics for community leaders, schools, and parents to enable more children to safely walk and bicycle to school.
