STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLAN APPROVED BY NPS

The Massachusetts State Historic Preservation Plan 2011-2015 has been
approved by the National Park Service.  The plan will soon be uploaded
to the MHC website but hardcopies will also be available to anyone that

Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund - Round 17

Secretary William F. Galvin, Chair of the Massachusetts Historical
Commission is pleased to announce that Round 17 of the Massachusetts
Preservation Projects Fund (MPPF) grant program has been scheduled. It
is anticipated that funding will be in the range of $780,000 to
$800,000.Administered by the Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC),
the MPPF is a state-funded 50% reimbursable matching grant program
established in 1984 to support the preservation of properties,
landscapes, and sites listed in the State Register of Historic Places.
Applicants must be a municipality or nonprofit organization. The program
is administered in accordance with 950 CMR 73.00. Please note that grant
disbursement is subject to reauthorization of the capital accounts and
the availability of sufficient allocated funds.  Join a member of the
MHC's Grants Division at a scheduled MPPF workshop as they explain the
program requirements, go over program materials, and give you the
opportunity to ask questions. Workshops are free of charge and no
registration is required. Applications for the next round of grants,
Round 17, are due March 25, 2011. For MPPF program information,

LOCAL HISTORICAL COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP UPDATE FORMS

The Massachusetts Historical Commission is currently sending out
membership update forms to local historical commissions statewide.
Where possible, we are sending the update forms electronically to the
chairperson of the commission.  If we don't have an email address for
the commission chairperson, we will follow-up with hard copies in the
mail.  Please update the form including the new members of your
commission.  That way, we can send each new member a copy of the
Preservation Planning Manual, the guidebook for Local Historical
Commissions.  

 

NEW LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT PROPOSED IN BROOKLINE 

The town of Brookline has submitted a local historic district
preliminary study report to the Massachusetts Historical Commission for
the establishment of a new local historic district.  In Brookline, the
proposed Lawrence Local Historic District is a residential neighborhood
of 19th and early 20th Century homes and includes 89 properties.  

 

LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT EXPANSION PROPOSED IN OAK BLUFFS

In Oak Bluffs, the proposal is an expansion to the existing Cottage City
Historic District consisting of one property, the Bradley Memorial
Church.  This building is currently under demolition delay through the
Oak Bluffs Historical Commission.
