This question is not about historic districts, but about town zoning in
general, but since it is design related, I thought someone might know.
Do any towns have zoning regulations (or otherwise) that stipulate that
front porches must be painted or stained? I've been noticing in
Springfield that more and more property owners are fixing up their
porches with pressure treated lumber and leaving it in a natural state;
it looks horrible, especially compared to a nicely painted porch. I'd
like to give our city council some examples of other communities which
might have a higher construction standard, and how to achieve that
(either via zoning codes or building codes).
Of course, in a historic district, we never allow pressure treated
lumber to remain unpainted.
Thanks,
Ralph Slate
