LOCAL PRESERVATION UPDATE E-NEWSLETTER

LOCAL HISTORICAL COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP UPDATE FORMS
The Massachusetts Historical Commission recently sent a membership
update form to all of the local historical commissions across the state.
MHC maintains a database of local commission members and this update
form helps keep our database current. It is especially useful for
letting us know when new members have joined your commission. We can
then send new members a "welcome packet" including a copy of the
guidebook for local historical commissions, the Preservation Planning
Manual and the Local Historical Commissions in Massachusetts DVD.
DEMOLITION DELAY BYLAWS - UPS AND DOWNS
In Harwich, town meeting members approved an increase in the demolition
delay bylaw from six to twelve months. In more disappointing news, town
meeting members in Reading reduced their demolition delay period from
twelve to six months.
PRESERVATION MONTH ACTIVIITIES
Additional advertised activities since the last preservation update
e-newsletter demonstrate that many communities are working hard to
utilize Preservation Month, the month of May, to publicize their
preservation activities. Over the weekend, a walking tour of Art Deco
architecture took place in Boston. This week in Boston includes a
walking tour of the North End. The Springfield Preservation Trust is
hosting a historic house tour. Sudbury is holding an Open House at the
Hosmer House on Memorial Day. Numerous activities in Newburyport
include walking tours, bike tours, lectures, panel discussions, house
tours and celebrations.
