Ann,
I've seen lots of cedar roofs where the moss is eating into the shingles and
reducing the service life of the roof. I would suggest a gentle approach and
not power wash the moss away. There are a few metals that impede the growth
of organic materials on the cedar shingles, zinc and copper are the most
accessible.
If there is already growth on the roof, I would suggest installing strips of
metal on locations around the roof that will allow the wash off of the metal
to go over the moss and kill it. This should require the least foot traffic
on the roof and stay in place to help alleviate more growth in the future.
Cheers,
Garrett
