we use sarco putty, a traditional linseed oil glazing product...sarco is a small 'mom and pop' outfit in chicago...they have no website and no email address...you can contact them at 800-969-7889...they can color putty for an additional charge. for small amounts, there are local folks who repackage and resell the product...if you need a sample, i'd be happy to send out a container at n/c.....
also....
you can try this: http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/utccolorchart.aspx
or this: http://www.homesteadfinishingproducts.com/htdocs/Japandrycolors.htm
or this: http://www.homesteadfinishingproducts.com/htdocs/TransTint.htm we used the 'red mahogany' recently...the color was more of a pinkish red while the contents in the bottle appeared to be a red brown.
we tint our glazing putty when using a stain on the interior otherwise the white line of bedding putty would stand out...glazing putty should be painted at exterior applications.
hope that helps....

Subject: [MassHistPres] Tinted window glazing
We are involved in a project to rehabilitate the façade of a very historic but weathered and unpainted wood building. It has a large window wall comprised of many six-pane sashes that require glazing repairs. We would like to tint the conventional white putty so that it matches the remaining discolored putty. Our architect is having difficulty finding precedents for this. We would appreciate suggestions / recommendations. Thanks!
