[MassHistPres] Restoration of Massachusetts Bay Commission's Tercentenary Markers

How timely. Russell Bixby, copied above, recently completed a very detailed inventory of these, noting both the value of the markers and the sad shape of many of them today.

He wrote up and posted his findings online so that others can find and read them:

As you see, of the 275 originally erected, only 146 are still standing.

My understanding from Russell is that the markers are the responsibility of the Mass DOT. (Little wonder that they are a low/no priority.) Vermont, among other states, addressed this problem by transferring responsibility to an agency whose mission includes preservation and tourism promotion.

I'm sure Russell has more to add.

Best regards--

Lee
