In Brookline any permanently installed HVAC equipment is subject to review and the guidelines call for it to be out of sight. That isn't to say that the things don't sometimes wind up in front either through ignorance or because people don't want the noisy things in their back yards. So it has sometimes lead to enforcement problems and owner unhappyness.
