Not to be a pest...but this posting I sent last Thursday hasn't yet appeared - did it get lost in the holiday shuffle?

Like virtually
all historical societies, ours in Medfield sometimes receives requests to
publish photos or excerpts from our publications or manuscripts.  We don’t have a written policy, and we never
know how to respond appropriately.

The society’s stated mission is “to preserve, promote, and
share Medfield’s history.”  We want to help
and encourage historic researchers, many of whom are academics who are not
exactly Wall Street one-percenters.

On the other hand, we have a very limited budget, and I don’t
feel we serve our membership well if we simply give away our intellectual
property.

How do other historical societies deal with this issue?  Would anyone be willing to share their written
policy?

I really hope at least some responders will include specific
dollar amounts or ranges.  Thanks in advance
– this is a great group!
